Harajuku Fashion Styles

Description

These are the main, well-known female fashion subcultures in Harajuku, fashion district in Tokyo. I'ts just about female styles, so many other famous styles like Oshare kei, male fashion subculture, do not appear.

Lolita (or Loli): I've talked many times about this style, however it takes fashion features from Victorian Era and Rococo, mixing and reinventing in many other styles: Sweet, Gothic, Punk, Country, Classic, Hime, Guro, Military. For more infos: [link]

Decora: very colorful and sweet, it has vivid colours: pink is a must. Everything is super kawaii (cute in Japanese), strawberries, hearts, sweets, and an overload of accessories: maaany necklaces, many bracelets, and maaaaany many hairclips. And many colorful socks or leggings or warmers.

Visual Kei: a music genre evolved into a fashion subculture. It could be considered the Japanese version of London's Punk. But it is very different: the hairstyle is straight and can come in blonde, brown or red colours. Red and black is the main colour of Visual Kei, there could be also violet or blue. Many pins, zips, a tie (not necessary), and tartan texure. Clear skin and particular lenses.

Fairy Kei: could be considered the pastel version of Decora, it uses only light pastel colours: lilac, violet, pink, blue, yellow are the main. Stars, magical gadgets, unicorns, plushies. Colorful glasses, colorful wigs, ribbons and tulle skirts are very used.

Kogal: its outfits are based on Japanese high school uniforms, so sometimes they can wear the seifuku (sailorfuku) but also English college outfits. It's about to look like a typical occidental teenager, so let's go with orange/darker tan, platinum blonde or brown hair, light colours make-up (making contrasts with the tan). Loose socks are a must, with very short skirt and oversized cardigans or shirts. Kawaii features like a cellphone covered with stickers and pendants. "Sister" style of Gyaru and Ganguro. Cyberpunk: very know all over the world, it is imported from Europe and America but is is very popular in Harajuku. It is inspired by futuristic scenary and uses acid, fluo colours like green, blue, violet or pink, with black. Special wigs, goggles and gas masks.

Elegant Gothic (Aristocrat): subculture developed by guitarist and fashion designer Mana, it could be related to Lolita style, but its concepts are more mature and serious. Victorian Era inspired, it uses dark colours, laces, crosses, high heels boots and long skirts.

I love this collection. Lolita is definitely my favorite, but I also like the fairy kei and gothic styles.
