This is my VERY FIRST OFFICIAL creation! Made in real!
Here you can find the sketch: [link]
This skirt is a gift I made for :iconinu-p: 's birthday <3 She's the girl in the pictures! She's my best friend/sister and favourite artist~
This took me three days of work and 7 meters of fabric!

As a silent watcher, I feel odd offering critique, but as a student of the art of sewing, I feel I should.

I went to college to learn garment construction and pattern design. I do not have the creativity to design the dress, but I have the skill to make it. As such, my critique will be based on construction and how it looks compared to the sketch.

Now I must say, for your first sewn creation, I am very impressed! A skirt like this was no easy task.

To start with general construction notes.
First thing I noticed is it really could use a good pressing. The fabric is very wrinkled, and not in a good way.

The seams look like they could have used a good pressing too. But other than that, they are very neat, and straight and look very good otherwise.

The fit isn't all that good. The yoke is way to big on her waist, and it looks tight against her hips.

Where the yoke meets the main skirt, it looks off, because the main skirt seems to overlap the yoke. A good pressing of the seams would help that look smoother.

As I can't see the inside, my only real critique of your construction is pressing and ironing. But then pressing turns a garment from good looking, to great looking.

Most of my critique is based off how the skirt looks compared to your sketch,

Compared to your sketch, there is no fullness in the skirt. It all looks very tight, which wouldn't be bad, if your sketch didn't show it fuller.

It looks like you tried to shape the first layer, where the bows go, instead of gathering it. and the shaping is too far to the sides, instead of the front.

The ruffles on the first layer look flat. Ruffles can be hard, but a good ratio is usually 2-3 times the length you want to sew it too.

The bow looks like it needed to be a little higher, where the yoke meets the skirt. After the first layer, nothing else looks like the sketch.

That is my critique. With practice, a few lessons on fitting and pattern design, and an good iron that has steam, you'll be making outfits that everyone envies!

The skirt is overall beautiful, but I notice a few problems with it. Or at least what I see. The waistband is beautiful, but it seems really loose. I think it should be taken in an inch or so. (I don't use the metric system, so excuse me.) The bow, I think should be just a tad bit higher or perhaps lower. Either way, it looks too strange being on the crux of the rear. The folds in the front held up by the ribbon could be a little more even and clean in the folds.

But overall, it is beautiful. I love the lace and I love the shape of the bow. The waist band width is good and I love the little details you put in.

It's so exciting!! I think it looks a lot like the sketch :aww:

I read through the critiques and I wanted to say that I don't think the bow looks weird where it's coming out from... That is my favorite part! The back looks so professional and amazing!!
